Arrecife is the capital of Lanzarote and is home to half of the island's population.
Not only a bustling commercial and administrative centre Arrecife has it's own sandy beach. Next to the beach is Lanzarote's tallest building, The Grand Hotel. This is unusual in Lanzarote as it defies the usual height and colour restrictions imposed on all buildings.
Interesting attractions include the Castles of San Jose, home to the international Museum of Modern Art, and San Gabriel, home to the Archaeological Museum.
There are also the Casa de la Cultura Agustin de la Hoz and the 17th century Iglesia de San Gines, an important landmark of historical Arrecife.
5km outside Arrecife is the islands only airport.
